Rebirth Of Mother Earth

Nowadays, the media is constantly talking about saving natural resources and they have indeed come up with interesting advertisements. For example, in korea they have a KIA Forte Hybrid car commercial encouraging people to change to a much more eco-friendly car.

Narration: If you sit down and think about it, "green" nurtured us,
now its time to nurture "green" up. Decrease CO2, increase fuel-efficiency.

Its really comforting to see a multi-national corporation company such as KIA doing their bid to save "mother earth". To look deeper into it though, its rather peculiar as korea is known to be a high context culture, meaning that they place little or no importance on the message transmitted, the advert on the other hand seems to be a low context culture where more emphasis is placed on the message transmitted in hopes that it will reach out to millions of viewers.

On another note, there was a subway advertisment done for Samsung tesco, supermarkets and it was a really innovative and creative one! they wallpapered the wall with "groceries"! below is the picture.

  1. Green technology is hot, hot, hot... Kia investing in it is very appropriate and good for business too. Focusing on the current context and society's perception of things, it made sure that it is not out of touch with reality.

  4. Hi!
I think the Korean ad (KIA Forte LPi Hybrid) is a customized ad for a high-context culture rather than the low-context one. This ad doesn't really use so many words, and many messages in the ad are left unsaid, letting the culture explain (regarding the "green" movement). If someone see the beginning part of this ad only, they won't know that this is actually an ad for automobile. This is the same like what have been said in the lecture, sometimes some parts of the ad seem so unrelated to he product being advertised. Anyway, this is a very entertaining ad.

  7. It is indeed ingenious for companies to make use of the media to encourage people to go green. The use of an up-beat tune automatically attracts a viewer to stay hooked on the commercial and see await to see what is coming subsequently. Furthermore, the use of the colour green strongly substantiates the message that KIA is trying to bring across to viewers. A very interesting and provoking commercial. Great choice! :)

  8. if im not wrong, there was a conspiracy theory on petrol companies shutting down the hybrid or electric car program right? because they will be out of money.

  9. yeah, global warming and the earth's gradually depleting resources will definitely appreciate go-green ads such as this one. Moreover, it's a great approach that appeals to environmental activists!!

ps. the broccoli baby is cute! (:
